Hi Carl,
Thanks so much for your support, here is what are planning for 9/11.
On Saturday, Sept 11, the Sheepdogs will have a special rally in West Chester. We will honor Mike Horrocks, a local hero, who was killed by Islamic terrorists. Mike was the co-pilot of United Airlines Flight 175,
the 2nd plane flown into the towers. Mike was 38 years old, he left behind a wife (a first-grade teacher, named Miriam) and to young children, a son 5, and a daughter 3.
Mike Horrocks was the starting quarterback of West Chester University from 1982-1984. In his very first start, he led West Chester to a big upset victory over the University of Delaware. His teammates loved him, he gave
them the confidence they needed and he always remained calm and determined on the football field. He was one of the best quarterbacks in West Chester University history. He was also in the ROTC program while studying and
playing football at WCU.
After graduating from West Chester, Mike went into the Marines and became a pilot. He flew the giant C-130's, used to refuel jets in midair. It requires a special kind of toughness combined with a cool confidence. That
was Mike's trademark.
After 6 years, in 1991, he became a commercial airline pilot and was one of United best's and most popular. He took his job seriously, providing worry-free transportation for all of us.
On 9/11/2001 - The terrorists, 5 Islamic savages, held a box-cutter to a stewardesses throat and made he give the secret knock on the cabin door. They got in and slaughtered Mike from behind as he sat helpless and startled, strapped in his co-pilot's chair.
After killing Mike and the pilot (another great man with a wife and children). They headed for NYC, towards the 2nd tower, using our plane, filled with our citizens, and flew it into our building, to kill as many of us as they could.
Mike's funeral on Sept 15, 2001 was one of the first one's. Hundred's of commercial airline pilots from all over attended and so did all his teammates from his WCU football team.
His teammates always wanted to have a statue of Mike built on the path that the team takes to get onto the field. They tried for years, but were turned away by the college president. Finally, a new college president was hired 2
years ago, a great man, a patriot named Greg Weisenstein. He gave the teammates the permission.
His teammates needed to raise $100,000 for the life size statue. The worked hard and did it. The Sheepdogs had 2 fundraisers and we raised $3000.
On Saturday, 9/11/2010 - West Chester University has a home football game and the statue will be unveiled right before the game.
The Marine Corps has been invited and they are sending the current members of Mike's old unit, and there will be a flyover of 4 C-130 planes, right before kickoff.
It's going to be a very very patriotic event. The unveiling ceremony begins at 10:15AM the West Chester University Football Field.
Farrell Stadium
855 South New Street
West Chester, PA 19383.
The football game begins after the ceremony.
The Sheepdogs will have a special rally which will begin at 9AM on the courthouse corner of High and Market St in downtown West Chester.
We will wear special "Remember 9/11" Mike Horrocks t-shirts, they are gold, double-sided, and have Mike Horrocks name and number on them.
Our rally will be one hour, from 9AM till 10AM. Then we will drive to Farrell Stadium (about 3 miles) for the statue dedication and unveiling.
Attending will be all of Mike's football teammates, his wife and 2 kids, his mother and father and other family members. Also, there will be a large
turnout of United Airlines pilots.
The Marines will be there, and we will hear a few words from the Commander of Mike's old unit. The WCU college president and football coach will say a few words. All the WCU football team will be there. The Marines will have
an Honor Guard there. Several Bagpiper bands will be there. Thousands of the special gold shirts have been sold. They are expecting a "gold out" in the stands.
It will truly be a great day, a great way to remember 9/11.
I am extending a special invitation to Carl and his fellow classic car friends to join us for our rally on 9/11. Our goal that day is to have 100 people, all wearing the gold shirts. I have a lot of American Flags for us
to hold, but if you can bring one of your own, that would be great. The more flags, the better our presentation.
We will conclude our rally by singing the National Anthem like we always do and a prayer for our troops and country.
If you want a gold t-shirt, they are $12 each. Please let me know what you need and I will have them for you to put on at the rally.
Carl, thanks so much for all your help and support of our rallies. I hope you will bring a lot of your friends, thanks in advance to all who can come.
Sincerely,
Your Friend,
Rich Davis
